Basic Information on ATMs

Automated teller machines are very helpful. They control a lot of ways to manage your money. In order to make the most out of the ATM experience, you must know how they work. Here are some great details.

Automated teller machines have become such an important aspect of a financial life. These little machines hold the key to our money, and can dispense it at a moments notice. In order to get a handle on all things regarding your checking account, you need to become more familiar with the ATM. So let’s take a step into the wonderful world of automated teller machines, shall we?

ATMs = Convenience

There are two great things about ATMs. First, you do not have to wait in any lines inside the bank! Second, you can get money from an ATM 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also check the balance of your account, transfer money between accounts, as well as deposit money into any account you might have with that bank. You have a great amount of access to your account at an ATM, which eliminates the need to go back and forth from the ATM to the teller behind the counter.

When Can I Start Using an ATM?

You need to sign up for a checking account with a bank. When you open up that account you will be given an ATM card. This allows for you to take money out of your account as you choose. But, even better than just a regular ATM card is a standard debit card. A debit card gives you all the features that an ATM card gives you, but you can also use the new debit card for purchases. So when given the option, make sure you opt for the debit feature if you want to use it for purchases. You will know a debit card because it will have a MasterCard or Visa logo on it and can be used wherever those two cards are accepted. These funds are taken directly out of your account, so you do not have to worry about paying a bill once a month.

Who Owns the Most ATMs?

The following banks are the banks that have the most teller machines in the country: Bank of America, US Bancorp, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo.

Be Careful

Now that you have a card, you need to make sure you keep it close to you at all times. Do not let people borrow your card, and know where your card is every time you go out. You do not want to become a victim to credit card fraud.

Also, be aware whenever you visit an ATM. Many people leave their cards at the teller machines, and they also leave banking statements there as well. Know all of your surroundings when you walk up to an ATM. Know if there are any suspicious characters around the machine, because you do not want to become a victim of theft. This is not meant to make you worry about visiting an ATM; you just need to be aware of what can happen.
