A main goal we all should have is to rid ourselves of dependency of our credit cards. It can actually be quite relieving, knowing that you do not have to rely on that plastic for all your needs. Well that is easier said than done. How do you go about doing that? Here are some steps you can follow to make sure you are at peace with credit. These steps really are not that difficult to follow.
Do Not Let Plastic Control You
- Work from highest rate on down
Your goal should be to rid yourself of whatever card has extremely high interest rates. Those are the ones that will really affect you negatively. So make those a top priority. Pay those off as quickly as you can, then get rid of them. They are truly more trouble then they are worth.
- Don’t weigh down one card
If you have two cards then spread a payment out. But it is important that the interest rates on these cards do not vary much. If they are on the same rate that is very good. You will not be using all of your credit up on one card, thus you will not risk going over. This is a great way to manage your credit.
This may seem obvious, but of course it is worth noting. Do not line yourself up with cards that have a lot of fees because you will find they take your money quickly. This also means that you do not want to be late with your payments. They will find more ways to charge you extra because of missed payments. They may even raise your rate because of it.
Know Where You Stand
This is the main issue. You need to know how much credit you have and how much you use. The worst thing you can do is throw around your money without paying any attention to where it is going. But if you manage everything correctly then you will find you save yourself a lot of hassle. Do not be afraid to get to know your credit situation better. You will find that only good things will come from it.
