There is a possibility that you can get items deleted from your credit report if you approach them in an appropriate manner. You can write a dispute letter to the credit bureau about charges, or late fees that you would like to clear off your record.
After you submit a letter, the credit bureau will do some research into the alleged negative charge. If they contact the credit card company about late payments and they don’t answer the request, then the negative items will be deleted from your account. Even though this isn’t guaranteed to work, it is often a good idea to attempt to dispute certain items from your credit report.
Letters of dispute should include all necessary information about your accounts and exactly what charges you are looking to remove from your record. The more information that you give them, the faster you will know the results of your dispute.
What Happens If This Doesn’t Work?
More often than not, requests for evaluations of credit reports take a long period of time or are lost altogether. As scary as this sounds, the primary reason credit bureaus maintain their business is to service credit issuers (like banks) and not credit consumers such as yourself. While the Federal Trade Commission regulates the performance of many credit bureaus on behalf of consumers, getting the FTC to take notice of your case can be a job in and of itself. The solution? Get a credit monitoring service or a credit repair company to do this on your behalf.
