Credit cards, we all use them. But should we all use them? If you have a budget, then you might want to consider a different form of payment, cash. That’s right, that paper money they use to use back in the good old days. Cash may be jus the thing you need to really help with that budget of yours. Here are some ways that cash can help, and credit cards can hurt that budget you are trying to make.
Paper or Plastic?
- Cash puts a face on spending
When you hand cash to a retailer, you are physically handing your money over to them. This puts it into perspective as too really how much you are spending. With a card it is a bit more impersonal. A card really does not make it seem like your money, so there is not the same amount of worry. Plus, when you notice your cash running low, you will probably be more careful on where you hand it over to.
- Allotted spending per day
If you carry cash, then you can manage a cash budget as well. Only carry with you the amount of money you are allotted to spend that day. If your budget says you can only spend $40 today, then only carry that much. That does not mean you have to spend it, but at least you will not go over that amount.
If your kids have a credit card early, then they might not learn good spending habits. If they carry cash for a while before they get a card, they will be more likely to recognize the importance of their money. If they can physically see their money leaving them, they might be more inclined to keep it.
- You will not max out credit
If you do not use your credit, then you will not max out your credit. It is as simple as that. Don’t you want to cut that worry out of your life for a little bit?
The Battle Between Cards and Cash
Credit cards are very helpful to carry around. But it might be best for you to set those cards aside for a little bit and use some cash. It will help you managing your finances better. Plus it might give you a nice needed break. So let cash help you through your budget. It could be a nice little change for you.
