We always preach the importance of your credit score and your credit report. As we all know, this is information that you need to keep as private as possible. But did you know that your credit report may not be as private as you think? That is not something that we want to hear at all. But, here is how you can look out for yourself, and keep those records hidden.
Stop Them Before it Happens
Did you know the companies are allowed to pull your credit report if they let the credit bureaus know that they intend to offer you credit? Hence, this is where the preapproved credit card forms come from. This is very dangerous.
Because they have preapproved you, all you will need to do is fill out the form and then send it in. Now you have credit. But one thing the form does not recognize is who is actually filling out the information. So anyone can fill this out, change the address, and they will be using your credit without your knowledge.
What Can I Do
Well, since credit companies have the ability to give out your personal credit report information, you need to stop it. All you really do is alert them that you want them to keep your record private, and they will comply. Make sure you tell them that you want this private and only used for legitimate reasons.
Make sure you notify them as to what the legitimate reasons are. They may take it upon themselves to decide what those are. Because they tend to get money from companies for revealing credit histories. Legitimate reasons are the reason you give them, not the other way around.
Watch Out For Yourself and Your Report
If you are allowing this to happen, then you should stop it immediately. You need to watch out for what is best for your credit. What is best is usually to deny as many people as possible access to your credit history. The one you are aware the less likely you will get into trouble.
So take the extra steps, and do not worry. If they are giving you a hard time and will not comply, then stay on them. Make them realize that this is an important matter to you, and it really needs to become an important matter to them.
