Do not mistake the title, of course you do not want to hurt your savings! This is meant as a guide to show you ways you can hurt your savings if you are not careful. These are things that you really want to avoid because they can get you off the path to great credit. So, let’s see what you should avoid in order to continue your great savings.
Ouch…My Savings!
This comes in two parts. The first part is the refusal to make a budget, and then follow it. A budget is a great way of telling how much money you have and what you can successfully spend it on. It helps you keep track of something that you might not have been able to keep track of yourself. If you do not have a budget, then make one. If you do not follow your budget, start to do so! You will be pleased with how easy money matters become.
Next, do not carelessly spend on things you do not really need. Carelessness leads to great financial troubles. It is ok to indulge yourself every now and again but do not let this become a habit. You want to use your money on the important things first. Then you can spend your money on other things you desire.
Your car is very important and may be something you cannot live without, but it may not be smart to blow your savings on an expensive new car when a used car will do the trick. If money is tight the last thing you need to do is cause more payments. If you do want a new car, then make sure it is economical for your situation. A super large gas draining machine may not be in the best interest of your small budget, so keep that in mind.
- Routinely check your savings
This is sort of like a budget, but it involves your savings as a whole. If you have placed your savings in mutual funds, make sure you know what is happening to them. Always know how your money is doing so you can become able to anticipate what is going to happen and how much money you are gaining or losing.
Protect Yourself and your Savings
Do not let your money go to waste. Make sure it is under your watchful eye, always, and that no major problems are haunting it. If you pay attention to how you are using your money then everything will be fine. Do not get out of control, because that is when the real trouble begins to pop up.
