Signing the Back of Your Credit Card

You know that place on the back of your credit card that you can sign? Should you sign it or let it stay the way it is?

There is a debate raging on in the Nation. This debate is about your credit card and whether or not you should sign the back of your card when you get it. There are some people who think that you should sign the back of your card while there are others who do not think that it is problem. Let’s talk about this for a bit because your credit card is very important and you need to know how it will work for you. Something like this might not seem like a big deal, but you do not want it to become a big deal until it is too late. Now is your time to use your credit card wisely so make sure you know what is always going on.

Writing “See I.D.”

Instead of signing their name there are some people who will just write “See I.D.” on the back of the card. They do this because they fear that some people out there will be able to copy their signature and then use the card themselves. By having the cashier check their identification then the clerk can get a clear picture of who is actually using the card. This has become a method that many people have begun to use, because this is what they feel more comfortable with. It is a way to make sure that the thieves have a tougher time using your card if it were to fall into the wrong hands. What about those who sign their cards?

Signing Your Cards

Technically the merchants want you to sign the cards. Writing “See I.D.” on the back is actually not valid according to those who issue your card. The people who like to sign their card also say that there are enough protection out their, like zero liability, in order to stop thieves and their credit card tricks. This means that signing your card is not as much of a risk as it might have been. Those who like signing their cards do not want to risk voiding their card by not signing it, so they do not take that risk. The connection between not signing your card and being less vulnerable to theft is just something that is considered a myth.

What Should You Do?

You have heard statements from both sides of the argument. What you want to do is officially up to you. Either way you still need to make sure that you credit card does not fall into the wrong hands. Just because you sign a card or write “See I.D.” on the back does not mean that you are safe. Make sure you practice good credit card techniques at all time, and then pass those tips down to your children. You are still the one who holds onto the card, so you still have the control. Make sure that you exercise it and know where your credit card is at all times.
