The ATM is such a great aspect of banking. It is quick and very helpful. If you are in a rush and can’t go inside the bank, then by all means, use the ATM! But you need to always make sure you are protected in your quest of quick banking. That means dong all you can to be safe and secure. Here are some tips for ATM usage that will help you do just that.
Great Safe Tips
Know your surroundings – Make sure you enter into the ATM knowing who is around you, and what is located near the ATM. If there are people hanging out around the ATM for a while and doing nothing, then watch out. If it is dark, then be aware of any hiding spots that people may take advantage of.
No shoulder lookers – Make sure that people stand about 10 feet behind you at all times. You do not want them to get close enough to see your pin number or see how much money you have. All that information is very private. So ask them kindly to take a step back.
Money counting – Do not count your money at the ATM. Wait until you are back in your car, or at your home. You do not want to let anyone see how much money you have on you. That is just another factor from them to come in and take your cash.
Drive up ATM – If you are using a drive up ATM, and then make sure you keep your car on. You do not want to shut off your car because you become a sitting duck. You also want to make sure that all your doors are locked, so no one can sneak into the car when you are not paying attention.
Weird ATM – Do not use an ATM if it is too unfamiliar and you are confused by what it is asking. You do not want to do any financial transaction without knowing exactly what is going on. That is a good way to find yourself in some trouble. You could accidentally agree to something that you did not mean to agree with.
Be Aware and Comfortable
ATMs are really helpful and this exercise was not meant to make you fear them. You should not stop using them; you just need to start knowing all that happens during an ATM visit. Make sure that you always feel safe and that there is nothing around that can hurt you. People do get tricked at ATMs and robberies can happen. But they will not happen to you if you take all the necessary steps to make sure you are protected. It is not difficult.
